Dear Friends,
In democracy, people become supreme. Democracy guarantees the people their sovereign power to exercise their civil responsibilities, freedom of expression and respect for all basic human rights. The anti-democratic, ill-guided and unconstitutional acts of King Gyanendra that began in October 2002 reached the climax on February 1, 2005 when he took away people's fundamental rights and instituted an authoritarian rule in Nepal. Nepali people's struggle to regain their political, civil and human rights continues. To show solidarity in this struggle for the restoration of democracy, the Nepali Diaspora in North America is organizing a protest rally in front of the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Friday, September 16, 2005 when King Gyanendra along with over 170 heads of states and governments are expected to come to New York to attend the World Summit and Annual General Assembly of the United Nations.
The unquestionable commitments people have exemplified in making this rally a success is the greatest source of our strength. However, we also need resources to cover the costs of this important event. We are urging you, who have unquestionable commitment to restoration of democracy, and the fundamental rights of the Nepali people, to make monetary contribution to the Rally for Democracy in Nepal fund. All the financial transactions will be completely transparent and will be posted on the rally website. For those wishing to remain anonymous, your privacy will be respected.
We thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Anand Bist
